My Day at the Sunset Strip Music Festival!

Okay, so I went to the Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) yesterday, and let me say that it was AMAZINGLY fun. It was my first real rock n' roll experience. I got to see Neon Trees, Semi Precious Weapons, AND Slash live!

First, I headed to the east outdoor stage to see Neon Trees. Now, I love them, but I TOTALLY underestimated their genre. I thought they were just pop alternative, but they are SERIOUS rock n' roll. They were so much fun and had SO much energy. The lead singer, Tyler Glenn, is freaking amazing. He's so loud and crazy, he can really put on a great show. I mean, the whole band can, of course, but you know what I mean.

Right after Neon Trees was the band I had been waiting for--Semi Precious Weapons. They were CRAZY. No lie. I was so happy that they played their self-titled track 'Semi Precious Weapons' as their first song. I was freaking screaming the lyrics out. I'm surprised that I didn't lose my voice after the first song! Throughout the rest of the set, Justin Tranter, the lead singer, opened a bottle of champagne and sprayed it all over the audience, stage dove and crowd surfed, changed his clothes on stage, and made out with an audience member! Also, the rest of the band members got pretty wild. The guitarist, Stevy Pyne, was jumping across the stage and hanging from VARIOUS hights. It was insane, to say the least. AND, at the end, Justin decided to tell the audience to jump over the barrier and on to the stage, regardless of what the security said! By the end of the show (where they cut off the speakers, by the way) there were tons of fans on stage. It was such an amazing sight. I thought, wow. THIS is rock n' roll. Unfortunately, the police didn't see it the same way. While I was waiting at the Star 98.7 booth waiting for them to come sign autographs, an employee told us that they might not be able to make it because the police were waiting for them after their show in which they "started a riot". Now, I'm all for obeying the law and everything, but seriously? They started a RIOT? I didn't see anything get destroyed, or burned down, or even any fighting! I mean, if it's okay with the band, then why NOT let the fans come on stage? Oh well. In the end, thankfully, they finally made it to the CD signing. I took a picture with the whole band, and they even signed my bag! Also, I gave my blog link to Stevy, so if you're reading this, well, THANK YOU! You HAVE to see Semi Precious Weapons live. They will not disappoint you!

Lastly, my dad had to see Slash, so we watched what was left of his set after the Semi Precioius Weapons CD signing. Him and his whole band were really fun. Plus, FERGIE came on stage to sing, and she was AMAZING! You wouldn't believe how awesome she sounded. I was also very happy because they played Barracuda, one of my FAVORITE classic rock tunes.

And THAT, my friends, was my day at SSMF. Thank you to Neon Trees, Semi Precious Weapons, and Slash for putting on the greatest rock n' roll shows I have seen yet. Rock on, folks!

Music Video Fix--Katy Perry Premiere and Marina and the Diamonds!

Hello, fellow music lovers! Today, I have not one, but TWO music videos I'd like to share with you guys!

The first one is the PREMIERE of Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream'! I have to say, I like her other music videos better, but this one isn't THAT bad. Plus, I love the song, it's so sweet! :) If you want to check it out, I have the MTV link, but it's also on the VH1 website and Katy Perry's official site!
MTV link--http://www.mtv.com/videos/katy-perry/549638/teenage-dream.jhtml

The next one isn't a premiere, it made its way on to YouTube just a week ago. It's Marina and the Diamond's spectacular megamix video called, 'I Am Not a Princess', and may I say it is absolutely BRILLIANT and AMAZING! It has this whole fantasy storyline with characters inspired by Alice in Wonderland and a bunch of other fairytales! Plus, since it's a megamix of songs from her debut album, there's TEN MINUTES of the video for you to enjoy! It's directed by E.L.Y. You HAVE to check it out!

Hope you enjoy the videos! See ya!

New Video from The Like for 'Wishing He Was Dead'!

As you probably know, The Like is one of my new favorite bands EVER! It's a four-member, all girl group who ALL PLAY THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS, and dress like they're in the 60's! Are you intrigued? I think YES. Anyway, their new video for 'Wishing He Was Dead' is out today! I absolutely love the track AND the video! Another thing I like about The Like (heh heh) is that they can keep it simple but still keep it entertaining! 'Wishing He Was Dead' is now exclusively on the NME website (http://www.nme.com) right now for your viewing pleasure! And be sure to buy their latest album, 'Release Me', out now!

2010 MTV Video Music Award Nominations!

WOOT! Today, they announced the nominations for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and I'm very pleased since some of my FAVORITE songs, artists, and videos are nominated! I bet you're wondering, GEE, WHOEVER shall I vote for? Well, I CAN HELP YOU! I know, I'm so awesome, right? SO, in my opinion, HERE'S who you should vote for--

Best Collaboration--'Telephone' by Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce (No question on this one. 'Telephone' blows ALL the other nominations in this category OUT OF THE WATER.)

Best Dance Video--'Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga

Best Female Video--'Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga (but if you don't like Lady Gaga, I really think you should vote for Taylor Swift's 'Fifteen'. She got ONE nomination, ONE! Poor Taylor! But then again, maybe you should just vote for Katy Perry's 'California Gurls', because who KNOWS what drama will go down if Taylor dares go up there to accept a VMA...ack. Nevermind. Just don't vote for Ke$ha. That's all I ask. Please. Don't.)

Best Hip-Hop Video--This is a hard one since I'm not really a hip hop fan, but the only two rappers that I have merely ANY respect for are B.o.B. and Eminem. B.o.B's 'Airplanes', you have to admit, is quite catchy, regardless of how overplayed it is, and I mean, HAYLEY WILLIAMS! She's famazing. But on the other hand, Eminem's 'Not Afraid', I think, is a much more meaningful song. I say vote for either, but I just voted for 'Airplanes', because in the end, it's really about the music VIDEO, and I kind of like that video better. Moving on...

Best Male Video--Well, it's basically the same debate here, I won't bore you and repeat it. 'Airplanes' by B.o.B., or 'Not Afraid' by Eminem?

Best New Artist--'The Ghost Inside' by Broken Bells (I'm not the biggest Broken Bells fan, but A. I can't STAND Jason Derulo, his music is awful, and the video nominated in particular, 'In My Head', is also awful, B. I'm not going to hate on Justin Bieber, I have nothing against him, but I just really don't like his music, C. Even though I will admit that Ke$ha's 'TiK ToK' is a catchy song, Ke$ha is a drunken whore who rips off Uffie, so...no, and finally D. I dislike Nicki Minaj even MORE than Jason Derulo. She is so ANNOYING! I absolutely can't stand her, and that video is just...WTF. So just vote for Broken Bells, please.)

Best Pop Video--'Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga (All of these are actually pretty well done videos (well, except for 'TiK ToK', of course), but in the end, I just chose Lady Gaga because she's my favorite singer OF ALL TIME and I love her even MORE than Katy Perry.)

Best Rock Video--'Dog Days Are Over' by Florence + the Machine (Now, I'll admit my vote on this one is kind of just based on the fact that I love Flo to DEATH. The video, to me, didn't really make sense. It kind of freaked me out. The makeup and all that, it was just really weird. Not that weird is BAD, but it just felt really out of place. I don't know. If she wasn't nominated, I would definitely have voted for 'Ignorance' by Paramore.)

Video of the Year--'Telephone' by Lady Gaga (It's a hard one, with both 'Bad Romance' AND 'Telephone', but you have to admit, the 'Telephone' video was absolutely EPIC, and I do think it's better and more interesting than 'Bad Romance'.)

So, I do hope this helped you all who were deeply pondering who to vote for, or maybe I'm not helping any of you and I just like blabbing about music I like. Regardless of who you vote for, I will be happy if you vote at all, so head on down to http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2010/categories.jhtml, set up an account, and VOILA! The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards are on September 12 at 9/8c and of course, are on MTV. See you guys then!

Lady Gaga News---Gaga on the Cover of the New Issue of Vanity Fair, New 'The Remix' Album Out Now, and THIRTEEN VMA Nominations!

Hey, guys! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I was out of town for a week and stuff...but I'M BACK! Well, I have been for a while, but...you know what I mean. ANYWHO, I have much news on ZEH LADEH GAGA (AKA Lady Gaga and/or Mother Monster) for you! First of all, Gaga herself is on the cover of the new September issue of Vanity Fair magazine, on newsstands August 10! She poses in some crazy outfits and also in, well...nothing, in a lovely photoshoot by SHOWstudio's very own Nick Knight, a very good friend of Gaga's. Next up, Lady Gaga's newest album (well, I guess it's an album), 'The Remix' is out today! It features remixes of some of Gaga's best songs, even her upcoming single, 'Dance in the Dark'! Two remixes off the album that I reccomend are 'The Fame (Glam as You Remix) [Radio Edit Version]' and 'Dance in the Dark (Monarchy 'Stylites' Remix). Go check it out on iTunes! And lastly, congratulations to Mommy Monster for receiving THIRTEEN MTV Video Music Award nominations, more than any other artist in MTV HISTORY! Pretty crazy stuff! Gaga's nominations are--
'Telephone' for Best Collaboration
'Bad Romance' for Best Dance Video
'Bad Romance' for Best Female Video
'Bad Romance' for Best Pop Video
'Bad Romance' AND 'Telephone' for Video of the Year

Beyonce's video for her single 'Video Phone' featuring Lady Gaga was also nominated for quite a few awards, but I honestly REALLY don't like the song. I mean, Gaga's part is okay, but the song, in my opinion is pretty awful. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Gaga and I LOVE Beyonce, but it's just...BLEH. You know? I'll be doing another post with more VMA nominations from some of my favorite artists in a bit! In the meantime, PLEASE VOTE FOR LADY GAGA IN THE MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS!
